Donato Cabrera, conductor Oliver Herbert, cello
D.J. SPARR Dreams of the Old Believers
TCHAIKOVSKY Variations on a Rococo Theme, Op. 33
TCHAIKOVSKY Symphony No. 6 “Pathétique”
PROVIDING THRILLING EXTREMES in sound and
challenging the musicians to bring their technical ‘A’ game,
expect to experience passion, poetry, pathos and musical fire!
Opening with an overture dedicated to Cabrera, D. J. Sparr’s
Dreams of the Old Believers tells the tale of a family out of time,
living deep in the Siberian taiga and utterly divorced from
the 20th century.
The concert turns to perhaps the most beloved
of all Russian composers, Tchaikovsky, with rising star cellist
Oliver Herbert performing the master’s Rococo Variations.
Cabrera ends the evening with one of the most recognizable
symphonies ever composed, Tchaikovsky’s tragic and hauntingly
beautiful Symphony No. 6.
